LICENSE INFORMATION: All amateur radio operators are required to have a license under federal law, to operate within the laws and observe good operating procedures. Passing the test and obtaining a license is not difficult, but does require some effort. It is, after all, a federally issued license and carries the responsibilities attendant to such a license. The entry level license is the Technician license. A Technician license holder has full operating privileges on all VHF and UHF frequencies (30 MHz and up) along with some limited privileges in the HF bands (1.8 - 30 MHz). The next license is the General license. A General license holder has all the operating privileges of a Technician plus access to portions of all HF bands. The highest license is an Extra license. An Extra license holder has all operating privileges on all amateur radio bands and frequencies. One must pass each test before seeking a higher license. Taking a class not only prepares you for the test, but provides instruction by long time hams on operating procedures and the "how to" of amateur radio operations.
